Baptism

Baptism

Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. (John 3:5)

"Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word." Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213

The sacrament of baptism ushers us into the divine life, cleansing us from sin, and initiates us as members of the Christian community. It is the foundation for the sacramental life. Below is all of the information needed to have your child baptized at St. Stephen Martyr Church.

For infants and children under six years of age, a registration form must be completed and submitted along with the child's original birth certificate to the parish office by the parent(s) of the child. A letter of permission is required from the baptizing family's home parish if they do not live within our parish boundaries.

Baptisms are currently being held on Saturdays at 11am (date is based on availability) and are restricted to 1 child at a time.

All forms and fees must be submitted to the parish office at least (1) ONE month prior to the desired date of baptism.

The fee for baptism class is $200 per child and must be paid at the time of registration. Parents and Godparents must prepare for the baptism of the child by attending a one session preparation class. Preperation classes are scheduled once all forms and fees are submitted to the parish office. Classes are currenlty being given via Zoom.

Godparents must be fully initiated Catholics. Non-Catholics may only be witnesses to baptism, but at least one fully initiated Catholic is required as a Godparent for baptism. Only one male and or one women may be the Godparents of record.

Families with children who are not baptized and are 6 years of age or older need enroll in the Elementary Religious Education Program. Religious Education Information
